Bonded Warehouse Storage Essex

Customs Warehouse

From December 2024 PDM will be offering a Public Customs Warehouse facility, for the long-term storage of vintage wines. This allows for the import tax and VAT to be deferred until the wine reaches the market.

Drawing on our 30 years of experience of collecting, storing, indexing and delivering paper records, we are expanding into the storage of fine wines and spirits.

The warehouse will have full environmental control for both temperature and humidity, with only limited automatic LED lighting, giving the perfect environment for the long term storage of vintage wine.

We can collect and deliver on a next day basis to the south of England, deliveries to the rest of the UK and beyond can be arranged.

How Does it Work

PDM will collect or arrange delivery of your consignment of wine / spirits, from a port, producer, or another bonded warehouse. We will arrange all appropriate paperwork and notify HMRC that the consignment has arrived. No import Tax or VAT will then be payable until the consignment or part of, comes to market in the UK. If the consignment is subsequent exported the duty will not be payable.Once on site we will barcode each case, catalogue each case:-

  • Purchase Price
  • Producer
  • Vintage
  • Description
  • VAT
  • Import Tax
  • ABV %
  • Product Tax Code
  • Customs Office

When it comes to sale or consumption of the wine / spirit. PDM will notify, collect the duty on behalf of HMRC and produce and collate all paperwork for the consignment. PDM will then deliver or arrange collection of the consignment.  PDM will handle any dealings with HMRC.

Once the consignment is in the possession of PDM we will load the cases onto our purpose built racking and the position will be loaded into our database. The database has been designed to hold all information on each case and all documentation from customs and HMRC will be loaded onto the system, any paper copies will be scanned onto the system giving a full paperwork trail. The system is connected to HMRC so that all transaction and movements can be tracked traced and submitted to HMRC.

In short, we take all the tedious hassles out of the process for you.

The warehouse has 120mm of insulation and the environment is controlled to 12 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees, and the relative humidity to between 50-70%

The warehouse is on high ground away from any risk of flash floods or sea flooding, All cases are at lease 50mm above the floor level. The site is alarmed and linked to both the police and fire services, and there is full CCTV coverage.
